AUR Moldova has expelled a Romanian MP and three other party members. Valeriu Munteanu stated: 'The party was hijacked'

Valeriu Munteanu, a deputy of the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR) in the Romanian Parliament, was expelled from the AUR Party in the Republic of Moldova. This decision was made by the party's National Political Council, which convened on December 14. Along with Munteanu, Veronica Pascal, Crina Harea, and Andrian Buga were also expelled. All four were accused of violating party statutes and of actions deemed contrary to the party's interests.

According to a press release from AUR Moldova, the decision to exclude four members was made due to violations of statutory provisions, attempts to undermine the party, and involvement in activities contrary to AUR's interests in the Republic of Moldova.

Valeriu Munteanu, contacted by Teleradio-Moldova, expressed surprise at the AUR Moldova leadership's decision, stating that he learned about his exclusion only when informed by our editorial staff. He mentioned that no official communication regarding his exclusion had been sent to him.

Munteanu, a deputy in AUR Romania and president of the joint Commission (Senate and Chamber of Deputies) for European integration between the Parliament of Romania and the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, strongly criticized the current direction of AUR in Moldova. He accused the party of straying from its ultimate goal—the union of Bassarabia with Romania—and suggested that it seems to be serving some hidden interests. "It is disheartening to see that the AUR of the Republic of Moldova has diverted from its supreme objective. Unfortunately, it appears to serve some covert interests. The truth will emerge, and we will see what those interests are that it served during the electoral campaign and continues to serve," Munteanu declared.

The exclusion of two other members occurred amid controversies surrounding the electoral campaign for the 2025 parliamentary elections. Two of the excluded individuals, Veronica Pascal and Crina Harea, had run on the list of the "Democracy at Home" Party (PDA), led by Vasile Costiuc, while also serving on AUR's governing bodies in Moldova.

On September 18, 2025, the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) reported a possible "camouflaged electoral bloc" to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC). Subsequently, on September 23, the CEC issued warnings to both parties, ordering the PDA to remove the two candidates from its list within 24 hours or risk having its electoral list registration cancelled.

It is noteworthy that during this fall's parliamentary elections, PDA received significant public support from AUR Romania, including its leader, George Simion. AUR from the Republic of Moldova ran separately in the elections, securing only 0.1% of the vote, while PDA passed the electoral threshold and now has six deputies in the new Parliament.

Boris Volosatîi, the President of AUR Moldova, previously stated to Teleradio-Moldova that the AUR in the Republic of Moldova is not a branch of AUR Romania.
