The Republic of Moldova needs to enhance its air defense as drone incidents pose a major security challenge, stated Igor Grosu, the Parliament Speaker, during the "La 360 de grade" program on Radio Moldova. According to Grosu, the authorities are actively seeking solutions to detect and counter drones flying at low altitudes, which require specialized technologies.

"We strive to ensure that this will be implemented as quickly as possible to protect our airspace. Drones operate at low altitudes, which requires a different type of technology. This issue poses a challenge not only to the security of the Republic of Moldova but also to many countries in the European Union, especially regarding airport infrastructure," stated the Parliament Speaker.

Regarding the activities of the Russian Federation's ambassador in Chisinau, Oleg Ozerov, Igor Grosu said that expelling him is not necessarily the most effective solution at this time.

"I believe he is the only diplomat in the history of the Republic of Moldova who has not been accredited. That seems to be what the Russian Federation wants. They are looking for a pretext to escalate tensions in our already strained relations. I believe there are more effective measures we can take. At the appropriate time, those measures will be implemented, and they will be more effective than allowing ourselves to be provoked by arrogant and irresponsible behavior," explained Igor Grosu.

Since the start of the war, several Russian drones have illegally flown over the airspace of the Republic of Moldova, with some even crashing on its territory.

The latest incident occurred in early December in the locality of Pepeni, Sângerei, where locals discovered a drone in a field and attempted to bring it home. Following these incidents, the Russian ambassador was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he received protest notes for violating national sovereignty. Each time, Moscow denied that the drones involved were Russian.
