Mobile camp set up in Palanca for Ukrainians stranded in Moldova after border attacks

Ukrainians stranded in the Republic of Moldova are receiving support at a mobile camp set up in Palanca following the suspension of the Palanca – Maiaki - Udobnoe and Tudora – Starokazacie border crossing points.
The crossing of the Maiaki-Udobnoe bridge has been suspended due to Russian drone attacks, leaving several Ukrainians who intended to exit Ukraine through the Palanca and Tudora state border crossing points stranded in the Republic of Moldova.
The General Inspectorate for Emergencies, in collaboration with UNHCR, is providing sheltered individuals with food and hot drinks. Families with children are encouraged to use accommodation spaces equipped with sleeping arrangements until the situation is resolved, authorities said.
The crossing was suspended again on the morning of December 19 at 04:10 due to a new drone attack in Ukraine.
Earlier, on December 18, a drone struck the bridge over the Nistru, near the village of Maiaki-Udobnoe, causing damage. A woman died in the incident, and her three children, who were in the car crossing the bridge at the time, sustained injuries.
The attack by the Russian army was also witnessed from the village of Tudora in the Stefan Voda district.
“At 4:00 PM, I heard loud bangs, and villagers sent me recordings of the drones and the explosions on the Maiaki bridge. I don’t know yet how badly it is damaged, but the bridge was attacked. Recently, there have been more incidents, even nearer to us. If previously they occurred further away, now they feel alarmingly close, and we are understandably very worried,” said Veronica Mocan, the mayor of Tudora, in an interview with Moldova 1.
