Heavy traffic at Otaci–Moghilev-Podolsk after Palanca and Tudora closures

Heavy traffic of passengers and vehicles is reported at the Otaci - Moghilev-Podolsk border crossing point on the morning of Friday, December 19, as people exit the Republic of Moldova, according to the Border Police.
The congestion at the border is due to restrictions imposed at the Palanca - Maiaki–Udobnoe and Tudora - Starokazacie crossing points, following drone attacks on the Maiaki-Udobnoe bridge in Ukraine. These attacks have led to the suspension or limitation of border crossings in the southeastern region of the country.
As a result, some travelers have been redirected to crossing points in the northern part of the Republic of Moldova. According to the Border Police, control authorities are operating at full capacity and have implemented measures to streamline cross-border traffic at Otaci.
To avoid congestion, travelers are encouraged to choose alternative crossing points in advance, such as PTF Ocnița - Sokireanî or PTF Unguri - Bronnița. The Border Police advises citizens to obtain information from official sources before traveling and to remain understanding of the situation.
It's important to note that the Maiaki-Udobnoe bridge across the Nistru, which links the Odessa region and is part of the Odessa-Reni route, is currently closed. The bridge was struck by Russian drones on the afternoon of December 18, resulting in damage. Tragically, a woman died, and her three children, who were in a car crossing the bridge at the time of the explosion, were injured.
In light of these events, border crossings at the Palanca - Maiaki-Udobnoe and Tudora - Starokazacie points have been suspended or limited, leaving several Ukrainian citizens stranded in the Republic of Moldova. To assist, a mobile camp has been established in Palanca, where Ukrainians can receive food, hot drinks, and temporary accommodation if needed, with support from the General Inspectorate for Emergencies and UNHCR.
