Moldova could become a reliable fruit supplier to European markets, expert

The Republic of Moldova has the potential to transform into the "orchard of Europe," despite the increasing challenges facing its horticultural sector. The agricultural year 2025 has been marked by significant climate change, pressure on export markets, and rising costs. However, Moldovan producers have shown resilience and adaptability. They continue to invest in modern technologies, efficient agricultural practices, and international quality standards, according to Iurie Fală, the executive director of the "Moldova Fruct" Association.

"The year 2025 stood out for several reasons. This year, we witnessed the impacts of climate change more significantly affecting our sector. We realised the potential of our agriculture when it is practised with precision, knowledge, and technology. We have demonstrated that the Republic of Moldova has great potential to become a reliable supplier of fruit for the European Union. This reinforces our belief that the Republic of Moldova can become the orchard of Europe. Such possibilities give us hope for the coming years and confirm that Moldova can succeed," said Iurie Fală on the show Dimineața cu Radio Moldova.

According to the specialist, the results achieved affirm the Republic of Moldova's capability to be a stable supplier of fruit to foreign markets, particularly the European Union.

A crucial factor in strengthening our position in these markets is compliance with established standards and obtaining international certifications.

Iurie Fală explained that more producers are recognizing the significance of certifications and quality requirements demanded by buyers in markets such as Great Britain, Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands.

"Certifications demonstrate that we adhere to good agricultural practices and that these standards are validated by international certification bodies," he noted.

However, compared to existing production volumes, the number of certified producers remains relatively low. Consequently, the association's future efforts will focus on implementing quality initiatives through collaboration.

"Cooperation will enable us to be better prepared and more competitive in facing market challenges," Fală stated in an interview with Natalia Mogîldea.

Sustainable access to foreign markets is vital for both the financial results of farmers and the growth of a competitive, export-oriented agricultural sector, concluded the executive director of the "Moldova Fruct" Association.
