Yellow fog warning issued for the weekend; sleet expected next week

Meteorologists issued a Yellow Fog Code, effective from Friday evening at 5:00 PM until Saturday, December 20, at 11:00 AM.

The State Hydrometeorological Service reports that the upcoming fog will primarily impact the northern regions of the country, where visibility may drop to as low as 200 meters in certain areas.

This fog is expected to persist on Sunday and Monday, especially at night and in the morning.

From December 20 to 22, meteorologists forecast cloudy skies with no significant precipitation. Additionally, light frost may form in isolated areas.

Nighttime temperatures on December 20 will range from -3 to +3 degrees Celsius, while daytime highs will range from -1 to +4 degrees. Temperatures are expected to rise to +7 degrees over the next few days.

Forecasts indicate that the weather will cool down in the middle of next week.

Precipitation, in the form of rain or sleet, is expected on December 24 and 25. Nighttime temperatures are forecast to drop to -3 degrees, with daytime temperatures ranging from 0 to +5 degrees Celsius.

Advice for drivers and pedestrians

In conditions of dense fog, authorities recommend exercising increased caution on the roads. Drivers are urged to reduce their speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and use dipped and fog lights properly, avoiding high beams.

It is also advised to avoid risky overtaking, keep windshields clean, and turn on hazard lights when visibility drops below 50 meters.

Pedestrians are encouraged to wear light-colored or reflective clothing, cross only at designated areas, and ensure they are visible to drivers before stepping onto the roadway.

The State Hydrometeorological Service urges the public to heed weather warnings and adjust their travel plans to accommodate low visibility conditions.
