Top scientists honored at Moldova’s Researchers’ Gala 2025

Over 50 researchers from the Republic of Moldova were honored on Saturday for their remarkable contributions across various scientific fields. The academic and research community was celebrated at the 2025 Researchers' Gala, which acknowledged their achievements in medicine, energy, education, and research focused on the country's security and sustainable development.

Among those awarded diplomas is Galina Verdeș, a researcher at the Institute of Energy. She emphasized the need for research to develop green energy sources and reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels.
"As a country without its own fossil resources, it is essential to conduct research in this area to seek solutions for minimizing fossil energy imports and to find ways to produce green energy locally," says Galina Verdeș.
Other researchers also underscored the impact of research in various fields, including medicine and seismology.
"Thanks to research, we are aware of scientific advancements that we can apply in our daily work as doctors and teachers. This not only benefits us but also our students, resident doctors, and, of course, our patients, who can receive modern treatments in line with contemporary scientific rigor," explains Vitalie Lisnic, PhD, neurologist.
"We published a book on earthquakes in the Republic of Moldova, which is located in a seismic zone. It is important for us to understand the occurrences in this region," adds Vladlen Cardaneț, a scientific researcher.
To strengthen the national research and innovation system, the Ministry of Education has implemented several initiatives.
"Those with publications and scientific results receive financial supplements from the state budget. This began in 2024, and some researchers have received as much as 300,000-400,000 lei for their concrete results. We have significantly increased payments for scientific titles from 600 to 4,000 lei, and from 1,100 to 4,500 lei. Additionally, the salaries researchers can receive from national and international projects have also doubled," said Dan Perciun, Minister of Education and Research.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, there are 2,478 researchers in the Republic of Moldova.
