War in Ukraine: Japan offers nearly $500 million to restore Ukrainian energy sector

Massive Russian missile attacks on Odesa and Kiev regions. The bombings resulted in dead and wounded, and several houses were destroyed. Meanwhile, Japan has applied 18 sanctions packages against Russia. Japan can become one of Ukraine's key partners in its reconstruction. The countries will also expand cooperation in the field of security.

Japan has decided to provide a $470 million grant to Ukraine to support the energy sector. Another 30 million will be allocated for the supply of non-lethal weapons.

"Japan is providing assistance in response to Ukraine's needs: demining, support for broadcasting, education and strengthening of public administration, protection of cultural heritage," said Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will participate in the G7 Group summit organized in the Japanese city of Hiroshima in May, via video conference.

"We focused on Japan's involvement in the reconstruction of Ukraine. We have enormous opportunities for such cooperation thanks to Japan's strong technological potential and an aid package," stressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Meanwhile, Russian attacks are unabated in Zaporozhye, where people are scared and fearing the future. "We are used to frequent attacks. We are bombarded every day.”;

"I stop reacting when they bomb. I know where our guys are, where the occupants are, where everything is. I saw everything: drones, burning planes, shells. It's scary when the ground shakes."

The International Monetary Fund will finance Ukraine with 15.6 billion dollars, with the aim of supporting the fiscal and financial stability of the neighboring country. The United States of America will deliver an older version of the Abrams tanks to Ukraine.
