Igor Grosu: In 2025, Moldova preserved peace and moved forward on the European path
The year 2025 was a pivotal time for the Republic of Moldova, distinguished by its most significant achievement: maintaining peace and reaffirming the country's commitment to a European path. This statement was made by the Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu, during the "Bună Dimineața" program on Moldova 1 TV. According to Grosu, the year that is concluding served as an "exam" for both society and its institutions, during which important decisions were made by the citizens sovereignly.
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, announced that 2025 was a significant year for the entire country, highlighting that everyone managed to maintain peace. He emphasized, "This is very important. We all passed an exam and made decisions about how to develop as a nation and what kind of society we want to build, without letting others dictate to us."
Grosu noted that 2025 strengthened citizens' commitment to the European path for the Republic of Moldova. He stated, "People chose the European model—a model of peace, prosperity, and respect for human life. This choice defines the direction we will take as a state."
Additionally, Grosu mentioned that the Republic of Moldova made important strides in its relationship with the European Union by advancing its accession process, which is now entering a technical and complex stage. He said, "We have successfully opened the technical negotiations for accession, which is very important. However, this means that the Parliament has significant work ahead, as we will need to adopt and adjust many laws to align with European legislation."
Legislative achievements and priority areas
Grosu explained that this year, the Legislature focused on a wide range of public policies aligned with European commitments and the country's internal needs. He remarked, "I would say that all areas are important. When we talk about the environment, the afforestation program, or international agreements that help us attract resources, all of these are essential, especially in the context of climate change."
He highlighted the projects and laws adopted in key areas such as the environment, agriculture, irrigation, education, and energy. He stressed that climate change and energy security require swift action, stating, "We have projects related to irrigation, agriculture, energy efficiency, and our energy security. Essentially, I cannot say that one area is more important than another; they are all priorities."
Looking ahead to 2026, Grosu expressed that his priorities will focus on better organizing the Parliament's activities and intensifying parliamentary diplomacy, alongside continuing the necessary reforms for the European path. He explained, "For next year, I hope for improved organization within the Parliament and better internal dialogue. At the same time, we need to be much more active in parliamentary diplomacy and increase communication with the parliaments of EU member states."
In conclusion, Grosu sent a holiday message, reiterating that peace and social cohesion remain the most critical goals for the Republic of Moldova. He said, "Even if it may sound repetitive, I want peace in the country. When we have peace and cohesion, we can build, move forward, and accomplish great things at home."
