Hâncești woman jailed for five years and six months over drugs
A 26-year-old woman from Hâncești was sentenced to five years and six months in prison for drug trafficking, involving a 13-year-old teenager. The sentence was issued by the Chișinău Court.
In 2023, events unfolded involving significant drug trafficking activities. According to the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), the drugs were concealed within rolled 1-leu banknotes and strategically placed in various locations for consumers to retrieve, including the courtyards of apartment buildings in the capital.
Following search operations conducted by law enforcement, over a kilogram of alpha-PVP, commonly known as "salt," a substance with dangerous hallucinogenic effects, was seized. Additionally, more than 300 grams of the psychotropic substance MDMA (Ecstasy) were confiscated, which can cause severe effects such as paranoia, aggression, and a high risk of overdose, potentially leading to coma or death.
Investigators also identified smaller quantities of marijuana intended for distribution within a penitentiary.
The mother of the detained teenager, along with her partner, remains in custody while awaiting sentencing, as their case is still pending in court.
In response to these developments, the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, launched a national campaign in December 2025 to discourage drug use and trafficking in schools. This campaign focuses on education, civic engagement, and student and teacher involvement. Minister Dan Perciun stated that the campaign will expand significantly at the end of January and will continue throughout the second semester.
The campaign activities will take place during personal development classes and will include the participation of specially trained police officers to facilitate these interventions.
This initiative is part of the broader efforts by law enforcement to combat drug use and trafficking on a national scale.
