Moldovan students worldwide to be honored at 2025 academic excellence gala

The "Student of the Year 2025" will be named on December 27 during the 13th edition of the Gala of Students Originating from the Republic of Moldova.

For the first time, the event will also celebrate exceptional students enrolled in local universities.

Under the theme "Back to Roots," this year’s gala aims to strengthen the bond between the Moldovan diaspora and the home country. Project manager Cristina Dilan-Da Silva Alves shared these insights during the "Bună Dimineața" show on public broadcaster Moldova 1.

Criteria for excellence

Approximately 200 students are currently competing for the prestigious "Student of the Year" title. While a high Grade Point Average (GPA) is essential, the jury looks beyond just perfect scores.

"We encourage students from a diverse range of universities to apply," explained Dilan-Da Silva Alves. She noted that a candidate’s CV, including internships, publications, and extracurricular activities, carries significant weight in the selection process.

Expanding categories

The long-running competition features three main categories: Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral levels. This edition will also recognize law graduates in the diaspora who have built remarkable careers abroad.

Local students will be featured in a special category titled "Connected Through Engagement." This new addition highlights the impact of those contributing to Moldova's development from within its borders.

The Gala of Students Originating from the Republic of Moldova will take place at the Palace of the Republic on December 27, starting at 16:00.
