National Bank of Moldova launches silver coins honoring Petre Teodorovici and USMF

The National Bank of Moldova (BNM) has officially released two new commemorative silver coins into circulation on December 26.

The first coin, "Petre Teodorovici – 75 years since birth," joins the "Personalities" series. It pays tribute to the renowned composer and performer whose iconic anthems, such as "Santa Maria Maggiore" and "Vara la Soroca," defined an era in Romanian music.

The coin has a face value of 50 MDL (approx. €2.58) and a limited mintage of 500 pieces. The intricate design was crafted by Eugeniu Boico.

Honoring 80 years of medical excellence

The second coin commemorates the 80th anniversary of the "Nicolae Testemitanu" State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF). This institution remains the country’s only public higher education facility dedicated to training doctors and pharmacists.

Named after the visionary scientist Nicolae Testemitanu, the university holds the highest state honors, including the "Order of the Republic." The coin features a design by Svetlana Mînăscurtă and has a mintage of 1,000 copies.

Technical details and acquisition

Both coins are presented in transparent methacrylate capsules and premium gift boxes. Each is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the Governor of the BNM, Anca Dragu.

The certificates include a QR code, providing collectors with instant access to technical data on the central bank's official website.

Collectors can purchase the coins through the BNM via online requests or through licensed commercial banks in Moldova. Please note that commercial banks may apply a markup of up to 3% over the price set by the National Bank.
