Romanian and Moldovan students unite for cross-border charity campaign

A wave of solidarity has connected children from both banks of the Prut River. Students from Gymnasium School No. 66 in Bucharest, Romania, launched a charity drive to support their peers in Soroca, Moldova.
Emilia and Melisa Rotari were among the many children in Soroca who received packages. Their joy was evident as they immediately began trying on the new winter boots included in their gifts.
"I received clothes, a book, shoes, and lots of sweets," one student shared. Her sister added her thanks to those who organized the surprise, highlighting the impact of the donation on their daily lives.
The girls' mother noted that the gifts are a significant help for the family. As children quickly outgrow winter essentials, the new footwear and clothing arrived at the perfect time for the holiday season.
Cornelia Slutu, a mother of five children attending the same school, emphasized the emotional value of the project. She noted that the gifts recognize both the students' hard work and their families' needs.
The donations were part of the "Dreams Fulfilled: Heart to Heart" campaign. This initiative aims to demonstrate that kindness can drive meaningful change within the community.
Olga Gherghelegiu, Deputy Director of the Ion Creangă Lyceum, detailed the contents of the donations. Each child received new shoes, clothing, gloves, sports suits, scarves, books, and sweets.
In a reciprocal gesture, the Student Council at the Lyceum organized their own initiative called "Vitamins for a Child Like Me." These students and their parents prepared fruit baskets for younger pupils.
Student representative Sabrina Sterenco explained that the goal was to support health during the cold season. The fruit baskets were designed to boost the younger students' immune systems during the winter months.
The "Dreams Fulfilled: Heart to Heart" charity campaign has now successfully reached its fifth edition, strengthening the ties between the two regions.
