Grigore Vieru Library in Călărași closes the year with reading and traditions session
At the end of the year, discussions centered around the role of books and reading in community life, as well as a session dedicated to ancestral traditions. The event brought together numerous readers at the "Grigore Vieru" Library in Călărași. In 2025, the library will celebrate a significant milestone: 80 years since its founding.
Dressed in traditional costumes, both children and adults showcased the beautiful customs of the winter holidays.
"Members of the intellectual club 'Enigma,' the club 'Golden Age,' and, of course, our strong partnership with the Red Cross," said Galina Agafița, the director of the "Grigore Vieru" Library in Călărași.
"We have created a seating area called 'Traditions and Heritage.' Our goal is to ensure that old customs and traditions continue to thrive in our country," said Nina Tatarciuc, director of the Red Cross branch in Călărași.
The participants in the reading sessions are active members of the library’s community. For instance, Gheorghe Nasoilă is the founder of a reading club.
“For several years, my wife and I have been helping this club grow by bringing in more participants. Books are enlightening, and as a former teacher, I want people to develop a closer connection to literature. I want the children who visit to have more books in their hands, not just phones,” says Gheorghe Nasoilă, president of the “Enigma” Club.
Teodor Apostol shared at the reading session about his family's tradition of baking pies and his passion for reading.
“To me, the library is like a second home—a place filled with imagination. I really enjoy reading,” says Teodor Apostol.
“There isn’t a person who doesn’t read a book. How can you live without books?” he adds.
“I have been a reader since I was a child, and now I bring my grandchildren too. Even though we are grandparents now, we often come to the library; we truly feel at home here.”
In 2025, the “Grigore Vieru” Library celebrated its 80th anniversary.
Galina Agafita emphasizes, "We have an information center and provide internet access to the public. Thanks to the Novateca Program, we have acquired information technology for the district library and for the entire network of libraries in the district, which consists of 38 institutions."
The library's collection of 60,000 volumes needs new publications. The library director stated that due to high prices, the institution cannot make significant purchases.
