Moldovan President Maia Sandu accuses Russia of sabotaging peace negotiations

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has accused Russia of deliberately sabotaging peace negotiations while Ukraine continues to seek a diplomatic resolution.

In a statement on X, Sandu emphasized that Kyiv is exercising its legal right to self-defense against ongoing Russian aggression.

The dual strategy of Moscow

According to the Moldovan leader, Ukraine is engaging in good faith with a peace plan negotiated by the United States. In contrast, Sandu stated that Moscow is undermining these efforts through false claims and disinformation while simultaneously intensifying its military campaign on the ground.

Humanitarian impact and infrastructure

The President highlighted the severe humanitarian consequences of the conflict. She noted that Russian bombardments specifically target civilians and critical infrastructure, plunging families into darkness and leaving them without heating during critical periods.

Tensions over Valdai claims

"This is not the behavior of a country seeking peace," Sandu concluded. Her statement comes amid rising international tensions and unverified claims from Moscow regarding a drone strike on Vladimir Putin’s Valdai residence.

Western experts warn that the Kremlin may use such narratives as a pretext to escalate military actions further.
