Dorin Recean: Transnistrian conflict will be resolved only peacefully
The settlement of the Transnistrian conflict will be achieved only by peaceful means, and this is already happening, says Prime Minister Dorin Recean. The Prime Minister told a press conference held with his Romanian counterpart Nicolae Ciucă that Moldova would continue to ensure peace and security in the region and that the country's European course would not be an obstacle to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.
"The Republic of Moldova has always maintained and affirmed, and will continue to do so, that the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict will be achieved through peaceful means. This is already happening. The region on the left bank of the Dniester already has a very developed trade with the European Union, this trend will be accentuated and there is no opposing agenda between the European Union and the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict", said Dorin Recean.
Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă added that the Transnistrian conflict must be resolved peacefully, in line with the steps already taken in the 5+2 format. "Of course, from here on, we must continue and come up with concrete solutions because the progress of accession (to the EU) must not be hindered in any way by the resolution of this conflict", Nicolae Ciucă noted.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, also stated that the Transnistrian dispute was not an impediment to accession to the European Union. On the contrary, according to him, the prospect of our country's accession to the EU will contribute to solving the problem of the first cold conflict opened by Russia in the former Soviet space after the collapse of the USSR.
