Moldova-Romania border alert: Leușeni crossing reaches peak capacity

Heavy passenger and vehicle traffic has congested the Leușeni-Albița border crossing this morning, January 2, as travelers depart the Republic Moldova.

The Border Police announced that all available lanes are open and authorities have implemented emergency measures to streamline the outbound flow. The checkpoint is currently operating at peak capacity to manage the post-holiday surge.

Alternative routes recommended

Travelers are urged to divert to less crowded checkpoints, such as Leova, Costești, or Cahul, to avoid significant wait times.

Real-time traffic updates are available via the Border Police official website or their 24/7 Green Line for those requiring immediate assistance.

Rising transit numbers

In the last 24 hours, border authorities recorded a total of 59,914 individual crossings across all national checkpoints.

Chisinau International Airport saw the highest volume with 10,622 passengers, followed by Leușeni with 3,627 and Sculeni with 3,431 crossings. Other active points include Palanca (1,674) and Otaci (1,432).
