Moldova emergency services respond to 88 crisis missions amid icy road conditions

Moldova's General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) performed 88 emergency missions over the last 24 hours to assist citizens caught in hazardous winter weather.
Teams were primarily deployed to de-block and tow vehicles stranded on ice-covered roads across several regions.
Strategic emergency interventions
Official data indicates that 33 of these missions involved direct towing or recovery of vehicles. In Hăsnășenii Mari, Drochia district, rescuers successfully freed an ambulance that had skidded off the road while rushing to a patient.
A second ambulance, which already had a patient on board, was rescued after becoming trapped in Susleni, Orhei district. Emergency crews ensured the medical transport could reach its destination safely.
Nationwide logistical support
The central district of Ialoveni saw significant disruption, where officers assisted two buses, a heavy truck, and four passenger cars. In Nicoreni, Drochia, ten vehicles were recovered from the ice, while three others were towed in Zăicani, Râșcani.
The Inspectorate confirmed that no injuries were reported during these operations. Monitoring teams remain active on all major national routes as freezing conditions persist.
Safety warnings for citizens
Similar rescue operations were carried out in Glodeni, Sângerei, Ocnița, and Edineț, as well as the capital, Chișinău. Authorities are urging drivers and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution.
Officials recommend avoiding non-essential travel during severe winter weather. In the event of a risk situation, citizens are instructed to call the 112 emergency service immediately.
