Municipal workers focused on high-traffic pedestrian zones, applying anti-skid materials near public institutions, transport hubs, and pedestrian crossings. These efforts aim to minimize the risk of slips and falls during the morning commute.

Chisinau City Hall urges residents to exercise extreme caution when traveling and advises drivers to adjust their speed to current road conditions.

National emergency statistics
The national emergency service 112 reported a surge in calls on January 8. Between midnight and 8:00 PM, operators redirected over 100 cases to the Police and 87 cases to the National Road Administration (AND).
Emergency calls peaked around 5:00 PM, with 66 reports specifically regarding icy road conditions. These weather-related hazards contributed to 27 recorded traffic accidents across the region.
Widespread road interventions
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) conducted 88 intervention missions. Most operations involved towing and freeing vehicles trapped on slippery road segments.
The National Road Administration confirmed that 2,400 tons of technical salt and 330 tons of anti-skid material were distributed across national highways. Maintenance work continues through the morning of January 9 to ensure safe transit.

The Ministry of Education and Research announced that local education directorates had the authority to extend the winter break until Monday, January 12.
