Students return to school as the second semester begins

All educational institutions in the Republic of Moldova commenced the second semester of the academic year on January 12, which will conclude on May 29, 2026.

Schools had the authority to choose the start date for the second semester — either Friday, January 9, or Monday, January 12, 2026.

According to the Ministry of Education and Research, 563 educational institutions resumed classes on Friday, January 9, while 271 institutions began on January 12.

If lessons start on January 12, each educational institution will determine how to make up the hours missed from January 9 until the summer holidays.

Some educational institutions decided at the outset to begin the second semester on January 12, while others made this decision on January 8 due to adverse weather conditions.

The Ministry of Education and Research previously informed education departments that they have the authority to extend winter vacation based on the circumstances in their regions. Additionally, authorities emphasized the need to implement preventive measures to protect the safety of students and staff in schools.

By the end of the school year, students will have two additional breaks: a spring vacation scheduled for March 5-8, 2026, and an Easter vacation from April 11 to April 20, 2026.

We remind you that over 330,000 students are enrolled in educational institutions across the Republic of Moldova.
