“Europe is Close” Program: Road repairs reach 42 more localities in Moldova
Over 43,400 residents from 42 localities in the Republic of Moldova will benefit from the modernization of local road infrastructure through 28 new projects financed by the "Europe is Close" Program. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR), the projects aim to rehabilitate communal and local roads and construct pedestrian paths and access platforms to public institutions.
The projects involve the modernization of 18.35 kilometers of communal roads and streets, 6.77 kilometers of pedestrian pathways and access platforms, and 1.42 kilometers of local roads of district or municipal significance.
The financing contracts for these projects were signed on January 12 at the National Office for Regional and Local Development (ODNRL). The signing was conducted by representatives of the beneficiary local public authorities and the interim director of ODNRL, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, who is also the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development.
The development of these roads not only transforms infrastructure but also significantly affects residents' lives and comfort. It is essential that the work is executed to a high standard and that every leu is spent wisely and for its intended purpose. Our goal is for as many communities as possible across the country to benefit from modern and safe roads. To achieve this, we will continue to ensure the successful implementation of all 579 projects selected under the "Europe is Close" Program," declared Vladimir Bolea.
The 28 newly contracted projects are part of Lot III of the "Europe is Close" Program, which encompasses 133 initiatives approved for funding by the National Council for the Coordination of Regional and Local Development. Contracts for the first 61 projects in this lot were signed at the beginning of December 2025.
Authorities note that Lot III adds to the 220 projects launched in July 2025, bringing the total number of approved projects under the "Europe is Close" Program to 353, out of 579 selected for implementation.
All projects are included in the Single Program Document for the period 2025-2027 and are financed by the National Fund for Regional and Local Development. The total value of the investments exceeds 2.6 billion lei.
