The State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, Vasile Șerban, states that the low temperatures expected during this period should not negatively impact grapevine plantations. He noted that most grape varieties cultivated in the Republic of Moldova can withstand temperatures as low as minus 18 to minus 22 degrees Celsius. Additionally, he emphasized that winter frosts are not as harmful as late spring frosts, which pose a greater risk. As a result, the potential damage to grapevines is expected to be minimal.

Vasile Șerban mentioned, "The recent records indicate more negative impacts, particularly in the northern region where there are fewer vineyards. Even so, any damages that may occur will not compound upon those already noted, as we are dealing with different types of calamities. We are referring to late spring frosts as well as winter frosts that happen during the coldest time of the year when the plants are in deep dormancy."

We remind you that this week began with low temperatures, ranging from -7 to -2 degrees during the day and dropping to -12 degrees at night.
