Latvia supports Moldova in building a national data center, Prime Minister Munteanu

Latvia is assisting the Republic of Moldova in establishing a national data center, as part of their collaboration aimed at enhancing digitalization and cybersecurity. This commitment to joint initiatives and the desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation were affirmed during a meeting at the Government on January 13.

In a meeting with Edgars Bondars, the Latvian Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu expressed appreciation for the support provided to the Information Technology and Cybersecurity Service (STISC). This support includes training programs for employees, experience exchange, and methodological guidance for establishing the future national data center.

This initiative is part of a larger effort to enhance the digital infrastructure of the Republic of Moldova, which is crucial for the digitalization of public services, improving cybersecurity, and advancing European integration processes.

"Latvia's support for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova is vital, and Latvia's experience with the EU accession process and post-accession reforms serves as a valuable source of expertise," the Prime Minister emphasized.

Highlighting the expansion of economic relations, Alexandru Munteanu noted that direct flights between Riga and Chisinau, along with the organization of business forums in both capitals, have strengthened ties between the business communities of the two countries.

The Republic of Moldova and Latvia are committed to enhancing institutional cooperation and expanding partnerships, which includes efforts to combat disinformation in the fields of education and culture.

In an interview on the "Dimensiunea Diplomatica" program on Moldova 1, Latvian Ambassador Edgars Bondars emphasized that relations between the Republic of Moldova and Latvia are strengthening not only diplomatically but also economically. Providing expertise for Moldova's European path reflects a tailored approach that addresses the country's specific needs and opportunities.

The ambassador also noted a significant increase in interest among Latvian entrepreneurs in the Republic of Moldova, particularly in sectors such as energy, agriculture, the environment, and information technology. "The results will become apparent in a year or two, as we are focusing not only on the volume of trade exchange but also on investments," the ambassador noted.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Latvia were established on September 1, 1992.
