Elderly woman burned to death in Lipcani after flames caught her at the doorstep

An 81-year-old woman from Lipcani village in the Briceni district died after being burned alive in a fire in her home. Firefighters discovered her partially charred body on the doorstep of her residence.
A tragic incident occurred on the evening of January 12.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies (IGSU), the 112 emergency service received a call at 8:14 p.m. Two fire and rescue teams responded to the scene, where they found that flames had engulfed the roof and other parts of the 63-square-meter home.
Firefighters evacuated a propane-butane gas cylinder from the house and completely extinguished the fire after approximately two hours of battling the flames.
Following an investigation at the scene, IGSU officials determined that the fire was caused by a leak from the gas cylinder. Investigations related to the incident are ongoing.
To prevent similar tragedies, IGSU urges citizens to avoid using gas cylinders inside their homes. They recommend storing gas cylinders outdoors in well-ventilated metal boxes and keeping them upright.
