Hâncești farm incident: 70 pigs slaughtered

A total of 70 pigs were slaughtered at an illegal farm in the village of Boghiceni, Hânceşti district. According to the village mayor, Ion Zoină, the farm was operating without proper authorization.
When the outbreak was discovered, half of the infected pigs were already dead.
Specialists from the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) slaughtered the remaining pigs and buried them, as mandated by law.
"As far as I know, quarantine was imposed only on that farm for 30 days. Additionally, we were informed that there should be no movement of pigs or sales of meat during this time. That's all I can tell you," said Ion Zoină, the mayor of Boghiceni.
In the past week, outbreaks of swine fever were reported in both domestic pigs and wild boars in five localities across the Republic of Moldova.
In light of this situation, ANSA urges the public and farmers to refrain from using animal food waste in pig feed and to strictly adhere to safety measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
