VIDEO | Searches in Chisinau in a car smuggling case: over 100 vehicles seized

Authorities are investigating a smuggling scheme involving transport methods, allegedly linked to citizens from the Republic of Moldova and Romania, following searches in Chisinau.

On January 15, officers from the Customs Service, in collaboration with the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), conducted actions as part of a criminal investigation into smuggling.

According to investigators, a targeted group allegedly conspired with decision-makers from a company that specializes in dismantling vehicles. The members of this network had clearly defined roles aimed at obtaining illegal profits.

The scheme involved introducing cars registered in other countries, particularly in the European Union, into the Republic of Moldova, seemingly in accordance with legal procedures. These vehicles were then allegedly dismantled and sold in violation of customs regulations to evade taxes and other financial obligations.

Following four searches, law enforcement officers seized draft documents, computer equipment, and over 100 vehicles, both operational and partially dismantled.

The total value of the confiscated goods exceeds 400,000 lei, although the exact amount will be determined later.

Two men aged 34 to 45 are currently suspects under investigation.

Authorities are continuing the criminal investigation to clarify all circumstances and identify everyone involved, emphasizing that the suspects are presumed innocent until a final court decision is made.
