Moldovan exporters resume fruit deliveries to EU after TARIC fix

Exports of grapes, apples, plums, and cherries to the European Union can continue under the established quotas, which have not yet been reached, and with preferential treatment. This announcement comes from the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization (MDED). Authorities have confirmed that the technical issue that caused confusion regarding the quotas in the European Commission's TARIC system has been resolved.

"There is no blockage caused by the exhaustion of quotas, and exporters from the Republic of Moldova can continue deliveries to the EU market under preferential treatment. A technical deficiency in the TARIC system caused confusion in the display of quotas. This was remedied on January 13, 2026. During that period, no customs duties were levied on imports into the EU for grapes, apples or plums from the Republic of Moldova", MDED states.

According to official data from the European Union customs system (TARIC – DG TAXUD), of the annual quota of 40,000 tons for grapes, 11,394 tons remained unutilized in 2025, and another 38,047 tons are available for 2026.

In the case of apples, out of an annual quota of 50,000 tonnes, 38,884 tonnes were not used in 2025, and 49,229 tonnes are available for 2026.

For plums, the annual quota is 61,000 tonnes, of which 17,971 tonnes remained unused in 2025, and 60,789 tonnes are available in 2026.

As for cherries, out of an annual quota of 4,500 tonnes, 4,400 tonnes were unused in 2025, leaving the full quota available for 2026.

Export quotas are renewed annually, and starting with January 1, 2026, they are fully available, in the volumes established by the renegotiated Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union.

Official data can be verified directly in the TARIC system of the European Commission, using the order numbers for each product: grapes – 096802, apples – 096803, plums – 096804 and cherries – 096806.

MDED also specifies that, for 2027, a revision of the quotas is planned, with the possibility of an increase, depending on the capacity of Moldovan exporters to capitalize on the preferential quantities and on the demand on the European market.
