Moldova commits to Ukraine reconstruction and humanitarian aid at Davos summit

Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu reaffirmed Chisinau's unwavering solidarity with Ukraine during the World Economic Forum in Davos. The Premier emphasized that a just and lasting peace in Ukraine is directly linked to the broader security of the European continent.

Following high-level meetings with Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka and Economy Minister Oleksii Sobolev, Munteanu confirmed Moldova’s intent to participate in Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction. The discussions focused on mutual political support and expanding bilateral cooperation.

"We are united by the same aspiration—a life of freedom and peace for our citizens," Munteanu stated. He also highlighted the joint commitment of both nations toward their shared path of European Union accession.

Humanitarian response to energy crisis

The Prime Minister condemned Russia’s "barbaric" attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. These strikes have left significant portions of the population in Kyiv and other regions facing extreme conditions without essential services.

In response, the Moldovan Government is coordinating a new humanitarian aid package through the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Immediate support measures

The upcoming aid shipment will include critical equipment currently available in Moldova. The package features power generators, medical devices, and specialized intervention vehicles.

This assistance aims to provide immediate relief to Ukrainian civilians struggling with the loss of electricity, water, and heating. Munteanu reiterated that Moldova will remain a reliable partner in the face of the ongoing humanitarian challenges caused by the conflict.
