Igor Grosu announces when the new composition of the SCM will be voted from among non-judges
Parliament will vote on Thursday on the new members of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) from among non-judges. This vote will allow the SCM to start its work. The statement was made by the Speaker of Parliament, Igor Grosu, at a press conference.
At the same time, the head of the legislature also referred to the projects to be discussed at the plenary session of the legislature this week.
"The parliament will vote for candidates from the non-judges' side, so these will be the candidates from the civil society, who promoted the preveting. Thus, as soon as the Parliament's decision on their appointment is adopted, the SCM will become functional, even in its reduced composition. This will allow the unblocking of certain processes, for example, the announcement of the competition for the replacement of judges in the new Supreme Court of Justice", said Igor Grosu.
Last week, President Maia Sandu convened a meeting of the Supreme Security Council to discuss the exceptional situation in the judiciary. This was after two weeks ago the participants of the General Assembly of Judges decided to interrupt the session until April 28, and to postpone the issue of electing members to the Superior Council of Magistrates.
