Moldova’s national broadcaster launches ‘Show Central’ to bridge generational gap

The national public broadcaster, Moldova 1, is set to premiere its latest entertainment project, “Show Central,” this evening, January 30. The program follows a classic late-night format, airing every Friday at 22:00.
The show aims to modernize the station's lineup by blending candid interviews, humor, and cultural commentary. Producers intend for the project to serve as a common space for different generations of viewers.
“Show Central” is designed around current cultural and social events, maintaining the relaxed and dynamic tone characteristic of the genre. Producer Alexandr Dzechis described the launch as a milestone for the station.
“For any TV producer, a late-night show is the ultimate dream. It is a complex format that requires speed, production capacity, and the ability to keep an audience constantly engaged,” Dzechis stated during a morning briefing.
The production adapts established international models to the local Moldovan context. Guest selection will focus on trending figures, from musicians launching new albums to public figures behind major cultural events.
The show will be co-hosted by Dumitru Roman, a well-known comedic talent making his debut in a recurring late-night role. Roman noted that the project represents a significant personal and professional challenge.
“I have accepted this challenge and am confident in the show’s future,” Roman said. He emphasized that while the tone is humorous, it will remain within the boundaries of public broadcasting standards.
Roman, famous for his edgy online persona 'Beton,' explained that he will present a more refined version of his character. “Television carries different rigors; I will be softening the edges for the screen,” he added.
The premiere episode, airing tonight, will feature discussions on Eurovision 2026 and the latest film release, Hotarul. The format also promises live musical performances and recurring comedy segments.
