Moldova gains unique status in US National Security Act with $36.5M allocation

The United States has designated $36.5 million for Moldova’s national security through an explicit provision in federal law. This landmark move marks the first time an Eastern European nation has been specifically named for such an allocation in a US Appropriations Act.
Moldovan Ambassador to the US, Vlad Kulminski, announced the breakthrough today, February 4. The funding was codified within the National Security and Department of State Appropriations Act, recently passed by Congress and signed into law.
A Strategic Milestone in Cooperation
The €33.8 million (approx. 715.4 million MDL) allocation reflects a heightened level of bilateral trust between Chisinau and Washington. Ambassador Kulminski noted that Moldova is the only country in Eastern Europe and Eurasia to receive such explicit legislative recognition.
"Our partnership with the US is robust," Kulminski stated. "The White House and Congress are demonstrating a clear commitment to strengthening our capabilities and preventing risks within a volatile regional landscape."
Focus on Resilience and Stability
The federal funds will target critical sectors, including energy security, cybersecurity, and national resilience. These investments aim to stabilize the state’s infrastructure against external pressures and emerging threats.
Chisinau authorities intend to utilize this support to ensure long-term citizen safety. The inclusion in the US federal budget serves as a strategic validation of Moldova’s ongoing efforts to bolster its defense and democratic stability.
