President Maia Sandu announces new economic acceleration plan for Moldova at Munteanu Cabinet’s 100-day mark

President Maia Sandu announced that the administration led by Alexandru Munteanu will unveil a comprehensive economic acceleration program by the end of this month. The plan aims to bypass internal and external bottlenecks to stimulate national growth.

Addressing the first 100 days of the Munteanu Cabinet, President Sandu noted that fundamental economic shifts require more than three months to materialize. She emphasized that the current focus is on building the institutional capacity needed to manage large-scale projects.

The President highlighted critical structural challenges, including acute labor shortages and productivity bottlenecks linked to the education sector. She argued that these "vicious cycles" can only be broken through targeted technology transfers and sustained private investment.

Infrastructure remains a primary focus, with the government preparing to implement projects valued at hundreds of millions of euros. For instance, a hypothetical project of €100 million (approx. 1.96 billion MDL) would require robust administrative teams to ensure efficient execution.

"The major challenge is consolidating our implementation capacity," Sandu stated. She noted that while the EU Economic Growth Plan provides significant resources, Moldovan institutions must strengthen their ability to manage complex, multi-million euro initiatives.

The Munteanu Government was sworn in on November 1, 2025, following a parliamentary vote on October 31. The Cabinet is backed by a solid majority from the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS).

While the parliamentary majority remains confident in the Executive’s ability to deliver, the opposition has criticized the government for the perceived lack of a clear roadmap. The upcoming economic program is expected to address these criticisms by detailing specific continuity and reform measures.
