Locomotive depot in the city of Melitopol, occupied by Russia, bombed by Ukrainians, Russian media reports
Ukrainian forces bombarded the Ukrainian city of Melitopol, controlled by the Russians, a locality located south of the Zaporizhia region, and Russian media reported on Wednesday that following the attacks, the city's energy supply was cut off, reports Rador.
Ivan Fedorov, the exiled mayor of Melitopol, a city that has been occupied by Russian forces since March last year, said in a post on the Telegram messaging platform that several explosions had occurred in the city.
Russian state news agency TASS reported, citing officials stationed by Moscow in the area, that the Ukrainian shelling damaged the city's power supply system and cut off electricity to the city and some nearby villages.
TASS also reported that a depot of locomotives was destroyed and, according to initial information, there were no casualties. Melitopol is about 120 km southeast of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, is expected to visit the plant later on Wednesday.
