New heating tariffs take effect in Moldova as Chisinau rates drop

New heating tariffs for households across Moldova officially came into force on February 13, following a decision by the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE).
While residents in the capital, Chisinau, will benefit from significant price cuts, consumers in Balti and other northern regions face increased utility bills. The revised rates were published in the Official Gazette on Thursday.
Price relief for Chisinau households
In the capital, Termoelectrica customers will now pay €103 (approx. 2,020 MDL) per gigacalorie (Gcal), excluding VAT. This represents a substantial decrease of 490 MDL compared to previous rates.
The reduction reflects optimized operating costs and updated energy purchase prices approved during the ANRE session on February 12.
Divergent trends in Balti and Glodeni
In contrast, consumers served by CET-Nord in Balti will see their bills rise to €112 (approx. 2,201 MDL) per Gcal. This €4 (75 MDL) increase is primarily driven by the need to recover prior financial deficits.
A similar trend was reported in Glodeni, where the price surged by 443 MDL, bringing the new tariff to 2,648 MDL per Gcal.
Mixed adjustments in regional centers
Tariff structures also shifted in other municipalities. In Comrat, heating costs dropped by approximately 240 MDL, settling at 3,505 MDL per Gcal.
Meanwhile, new rates were established for Ungheni at 2,980 MDL and Anenii Noi at 2,084 MDL, as the regulator continues to align utility costs with current market realities and provider solvency requirements.
