Prime Minister Dorin Recean calls on IT companies to act against misinformation and manipulation on social networks
Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced at the beginning of the Government meeting that today an open letter was published to the big IT companies urging them to act against disinformation and manipulation on social networks, including companies that undermine peace and stability throughout Europe.
"I want to mention that this initiative has already been countersigned by the prime ministers of 6 other European governments: the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Ukraine. Social media have become virtual battlefields, and hostile foreign powers are using them to spread fake information that contradicts the accounts of truthful media outlets. The basic purpose of these platforms: to socialize, to share news and useful information, has become a weapon of manipulators," said Dorin Recean.
