Maia Sandu will give a speech at the second summit for democracy, hosted by Joe Biden

President Maia Sandu will give a speech today at the second summit for democracy, hosted by American President Joe Biden. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Dorin Recean at the beginning of the Government meeting. The spokesperson of the Cabinet of Ministers, Daniel Vodă, will tell us more details about Maia Sandu's speech, said the prime minister.

We remind that the second edition of the democracy summit takes place from March 28 to 30 and is hosted by the US president, Joe Biden. The main topics of the meeting are the war against Ukraine and the decline of democracy in the world.

The summit is attended by 120 countries, including Romania, civil society organizations and technology companies. NATO members Turkey and Hungary were not invited to the talks.

Foreign Policy magazine quoted three US officials last week as saying that the rejection by two allies reflected growing concern about the degree of democratic backsliding in Turkey and Hungary, even as Washington relies on both countries to support the West's strategy in the war against Ukraine.
