Moldovan honey and propolis: Traditional immune boosters for the cold season

As temperatures drop and seasonal viruses spread, an increasing number of people are turning to natural products to fortify their health. Honey, propolis, and blends featuring walnuts or ginger have become the most sought-after remedies this winter.

Beekeepers note that beyond their flavor, these varieties possess specific bio-active properties. These characteristics support immune resilience and provide a natural energy boost during the coldest months of the year.

Heritage and seasonal varieties

Ion Toma, a beekeeper from Vălcineț, Călărași, continues a long-standing family tradition. He produces several honey varieties specifically curated for winter consumption.

His collection includes acacia, lime, and polyfloral honey, alongside the rare coriander variety. "We take pride in our heritage, delivering natural products that serve the community's well-being," Toma explains.

The beekeeper also emphasizes hygiene standards during consumption. He recommends using dedicated serving spoons to maintain the product's purity, especially during communal family meals.

Immunity tinctures and blends

Beyond standard honey, apiculturists are preparing specialized tinctures to combat seasonal ailments. Constantin Cojocar, based in Căpriana, Strășeni, offers a range of these functional products.

His inventory includes propolis tinctures and honey-walnut infusions designed to support the body. These preparations are specifically formulated to clear respiratory pathways and enhance systemic vitality.

Optimal consumption for winter

Health experts advise adding honey to warm—rather than boiling—beverages to preserve its nutritional integrity. A blend of honey, ginger, and lemon is particularly effective for soothing the throat.

For a natural energy lift, honey combined with walnuts or seeds serves as a potent snack. It remains a versatile staple, easily integrated into yogurt, vegetable soups, or simply enjoyed on bread.

In the heart of winter, these artisan products transcend their role as food. Each jar represents a strategic alliance between nature and tradition, providing essential support for the human body.
