Moldova issues severe orange weather alert for heavy snow and high winds

The State Hydrometeorological Service has issued a severe Orange Alert for heavy precipitation across southern, central, and parts of northern Moldova. The warning is effective from Tuesday, February 17, at 20:00, through the evening of Wednesday, February 18.
Forecasters expect significant snowfall and sleet in these regions, with estimated accumulations between 20 and 35 l/m². Northern districts remain under a Yellow Alert, with moderate snowfall expected to reach 7 to 19 l/m².

Hazardous driving conditions
Widespread north-westerly winds will gust between 15 and 20 m/s, causing blizzards and significant snowdrifts. These conditions will lead to severely reduced visibility on major transport routes.
Meteorologists warn of widespread ice formation on roads, alongside localized sleet and glaze ice deposits. Authorities advise extreme caution and recommend avoiding non-essential travel while the alerts remain in effect.
