Moldelectrica becomes a joint-stock company with a mostly independent Board of Directors

The state-owned enterprise "Moldelectrica" will be transformed into a joint-stock company. The reorganization, including the transfer of all assets to the new legal entity, is scheduled to be completed by April 2027.
"Moldelectrica" is the operator of the electricity transmission system and is responsible for the centralized operational management of the national electricity grid.
The process of transforming the company into a joint-stock company was initiated following an order signed by the Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Energy, "The reorganization aims to continue the modernization of corporate governance, enhance operational efficiency, and integrate the national energy infrastructure into the European electricity market."
The authorities intend to establish a high-performance governance model that aligns with the requirements for synchronization with the European energy market.
The board of directors for the new joint-stock company will primarily consist of independent members.
In 2023, the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) certified Moldelectrica under the “Independent System Operator” model.
By joining the Energy Community in 2010, the Government of the Republic of Moldova committed to unbundling the electricity transmission system operator. This obligation is also outlined in the European Union’s Third Energy Package.
