Secret Service neutralizes armed intruder at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate

U.S. Secret Service agents shot and killed a 20-year-old man early Sunday morning after he attempted to breach the secured perimeter of Mar-a-Lago, the Florida residence of President Donald Trump.
The incident occurred at approximately 01:30 AM. According to Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi, the suspect approached the estate’s north gate carrying a suspected rifle and a fuel container.
Tactical engagement and federal investigation
Agents engaged the suspect at the perimeter. During the confrontation, the Secret Service opened fire, resulting in the suspect's death. No staff or local law enforcement officers were injured during the encounter.
The FBI has assumed leadership of the investigation. While the suspect’s identity has not yet been released, federal authorities are currently working to determine the motive behind the attempted intrusion.
Presidential security under heightened scrutiny
President Trump was at the White House at the time of the incident and was not in any immediate danger. This breach follows a series of high-profile security threats against him over the past two years.
The event marks the third major security crisis involving Trump since 2024. It follows the July assassination attempt in Butler and the September 2024 incident involving Ryan Routh, who was sentenced to life in prison in February 2026.
