Two killed as Russian strikes target residential areas and emergency services in Southern Ukraine

Russian drone and missile attacks killed at least two people and wounded four others across southern and eastern Ukraine overnight on Monday, February 23. The strikes targeted residential buildings, civilian infrastructure, and an emergency response unit, according to Ukrainian authorities.

In the Odessa region, a Russian drone struck a high-rise apartment building. While no fire broke out and no immediate casualties were reported at that specific location, emergency psychologists were deployed to assist traumatized residents.

Infrastructure under fire

In other parts of the region, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) struck two trucks, sparking a major fire. Several other vehicles and key infrastructure sites sustained significant damage.

A separate strike in the area ignited a fire at an auto shop and nearby parked heavy vehicles. Emergency services confirmed that two people lost their lives and three others were injured during these specific Odessa attacks.

Targeting rescuers in Dnipropetrovsk

The Dnipropetrovsk region also reported multiple strikes. In the Pavlograd district, Russian forces hit a sanatorium during the evening, wounding one man.

Later that night, an airstrike targeted the Pokrovska community in the Sinelnikove district. The resulting blast shattered windows and damaged the ceiling of a local fire and rescue station.

First responders also intervened to extinguish fires at a private residence and an apartment building that suffered a direct hit. Recovery operations continue across the affected regions.
