Moldova’s president marks four years since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

On February 24, 2026, four years after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Moldova’s President Maia Sandu delivered a message of solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
The statement, shared on social media, was accompanied by images of destroyed homes, towns reduced to ruins, fallen soldiers, and civilians fleeing bombardments.
“In the dawn of a day that changed history, Ukraine chose to resist—and it has stood firm. The resilience of the Ukrainian people is a beacon for democratic nations,” Sandu declared.
She paid tribute to the victims of war and expressed compassion for families mourning loved ones, for those wounded, displaced, or held captive.

“We honor the memory of those who lost their lives in four years of war. We share the grief of families torn apart. We remember the suffering of the wounded and the anguish of prisoners tortured in captivity,” her message read.
Sandu reaffirmed Moldova’s steadfast support for Ukraine, stressing the broader impact of its struggle on Europe’s security.
“We will always be grateful to Ukrainians for defending peace and freedom—ours and Europe’s. Ukraine deserves a just peace. And we will stand with Ukraine in unwavering solidarity,” the president concluded.
