Saskia de Vries exits Prosecutors Evaluation Commission; Parliament approves with 54 votes

International justice expert Saskia de Vries has resigned from the Prosecutors' Evaluation Commission. On February 26, Parliament acknowledged her resignation request and approved the end of her membership effective May 1.

The Chairperson of the Legal, Appointments, and Immunities Committee, Veronica Roșca, announced during the meeting that, after examining the request, the Committee decided, by a majority vote, to propose the draft decision for review and adoption by Parliament.

This initiative received support from 54 deputies.

In a press release from the Prosecutors Evaluation Committee, Saskia de Vries stated that she has decided to end her mandate for personal reasons.

"Being part of the Committee has been an honor and an extremely interesting experience," the expert remarked.

She also expressed her gratitude for the collaboration within the Committee and wished the Republic of Moldova success in completing the external evaluation process.

Saskia de Vries, a retired senior prosecutor from the Netherlands, was appointed by Parliament to the Prosecutors’ Evaluation Commission in October 2023.

The Prosecutors’ Evaluation Commission is responsible for verifying the ethical and financial integrity of certain categories of prosecutors in the Republic of Moldova, including managers of the Prosecutor General’s Office and prosecutors from specialized prosecutorial offices. It is also tasked with completing the evaluations of candidates for prosecutor self-administration bodies, including the Superior Council of Prosecutors and its various colleges.
