In Vienna, Chișinău reiterated Russia’s obligation to withdraw its troops and ammunition from Moldova

Moldova firmly supports a peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian conflict and, at the OSCE Permanent Council meeting held in Vienna on 26 February, reiterated Russia’s obligation to withdraw its troops and ammunition from our country in line with its international commitments.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi delivered the messages in a speech at the event, where he spoke as President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. He also called for respect for human rights on the left bank of the Nistru.

Popșoi outlined Moldova’s priorities during its Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers, held under the motto “For a Europe of Peace and Resilience.” He said the slogan reflects a firm commitment to support a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, ensure accountability for the crime of aggression, strengthen democracy and the rule of law, and counter disinformation and foreign interference.

He also stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between the Council of Europe and the OSCE to address security challenges in a coordinated way and reinforce democratic resilience.

“The Council of Europe and the OSCE have built a strong partnership over time, grounded in democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. This relationship enables a joint and effective response to current challenges, from transnational threats to conflict prevention and resolution. Moldova remains firmly committed to promoting the values that underpin these international organizations and to supporting the work of both bodies. During its Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers, Moldova will continue to promote unity, strengthen resilience, and advance a stronger Europe,” said the Moldovan Foreign Minister.

After his visit to Switzerland earlier this week, Mihai Popșoi traveled to Vienna, where he has scheduled a meeting with Austria’s Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, Beate Meinl Reisinger.

He will also visit the federal state of Carinthia to meet Governor Peter Kaiser, Regional Parliament President Andreas Scherwitzl, and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce. Popșoi will visit the municipality of Neuhaus, twinned with the commune of Trușeni and host of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova.

During his visit to Austria, the Foreign Minister will also meet Moldovan citizens living in the federal states.
