900 candidates register for Moldova’s first Romanian language proficiency certification

Nearly 900 students and adults have registered for the inaugural Romanian language proficiency certification for schools using Russian-language curricula.
The exam, held on February 28 and March 1, 2026, serves as a strategic milestone in the national education reform. According to Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun, candidates who achieve a B2 proficiency level will receive significant academic benefits.
Strategic academic incentives
Under the new National Baccalaureate Regulations, students from national minority schools can be exempted from the Romanian Language and Literature exam starting with the 2026 session.
Qualified candidates who hold a B2 certificate or higher will automatically receive a perfect grade of "10" on their diploma. This move aims to encourage linguistic integration and reward high-level communication skills.
Exam structure and logistics
The certification process evaluates four core competencies: listening, reading, writing, and oral expression. The written segment lasts 90 minutes, followed by a 20-minute oral examination before an official board.
"There is immense interest from our youth," Minister Perciun stated during a social media broadcast. He confirmed that the first 100 candidates will undergo assessment this Sunday at the "Ion Creangă" State Pedagogical University.
Data from the Ministry indicates that the current session includes 200 high school seniors (12th grade) aiming for the B2 qualification to streamline their upcoming graduation requirements.
