Moldovans abroad sent home over 132 million dollars in January: Most transfers - in euros

Moldovan citizens working abroad sent home 132.58 million dollars in the first month of this year, including nearly 74 million through remittance systems.
Data from the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) indicates that 80.1% of the remittances sent home were in euros, while 10.3% were in dollars. The share of transfers made in rubles has fallen to zero due to banking sanctions and technical difficulties in transferring money from Russia.
Currently, over 70% of the remittances come from EU member states, with significant contributions from Italy, Germany, France, Ireland, and Romania. In addition, transfers from Israel, the UK, and the USA remain consistent and important sources of foreign exchange.
The total amount of remittances in January this year was nearly $20 million higher than in January 2025. Over the past year, Moldovans abroad sent home nearly $1.72 billion gross or $1.66 billion net, with the highest amounts recorded in December—exceeding $174 million.
Although this amount is higher than in 2024, it remains approximately $100 million below the record level set in 2023. According to official estimates, around 1 million Moldovans work abroad.
