Maia Sandu is in Ukraine: Attends Bucha 2023 Summit

Moldovan President Maia Sandu is in Ukraine today to attend the Bucha 2023 Summit at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The information was confirmed by the head of state on her Twitter account.

"Today, the people of Moldova stand with the global community in remembrance of the terror inflicted on civilians in Bucea a year ago. We honor the innocent. Democracies must work together to ensure that these atrocities are investigated and punished," Maia Sandu said.

According to Ukrainian media, Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Geger, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic are attending the event. Information about the summit has not been made public, nor has the visit of the leaders of the four countries been announced.

Ukraine marks one year today, 31 March, since Russian troops withdrew from the Kiev suburb of Bucea, leaving the bodies of executed civilians strewn in the streets in what has become a symbol of alleged Russian war crimes. A year after the massacre that horrified the world, Ukraine's president, Volodimir Zelenski, came out with a message on social media in which he gave assurances: all those guilty will be held accountable for their crimes.
