Iran targets Middle East allies as Israel strikes fuel hubs in Tehran

Air defense systems in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates intercepted a wave of Iranian missiles and drones on 8 March. The attacks, reported by AFP via Meduza Live, mark a significant widening of the regional conflict that began in late February.
In Kuwait City, a drone strike ignited a massive fire at a high-rise building housing the national social insurance headquarters. Authorities confirmed that two firefighters died in the line of duty while battling the blaze, though specific details regarding the cause of death remain undisclosed.
The Kingdom of Bahrain reported three injuries resulting from falling missile debris, which also damaged a local university. Subsequent reports confirmed that an Iranian drone successfully targeted a critical water desalination plant, threatening essential utilities.
Simultaneously, the Iranian military launched a missile barrage toward Israel, though no casualties were reported. Israel also faced additional drone incursions originating from Lebanon, further straining regional defense grids.
In a direct counter-offensive, Israeli forces struck several strategic fuel storage complexes in and around Tehran used by the Iranian military. Iranian officials confirmed that the joint U.S.-Israeli operation targeted five key sites, including four oil bases and a major petroleum transport hub.
The current cycle of violence began on 28 February with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian territory. Tehran continues to frame its retaliation as a defense against Washington's allies, frequently striking civilian infrastructure despite claims of targeting military assets.
