Leova Social Center will be renovated with over $45.5K support from Japan

The Social Center in Leova will undergo renovations with financial support from Japan. A grant contract worth $45,538 was signed on Monday, March 9, by Takeuchi Kazuyuki, the Ambassador of Japan to Chisinau, and Svetlana Petică, the administrator of the beneficiary organization, Association "Social Partnership".

The project involves the renovation of the building's facade and other areas of the social center to enhance access to social protection services for vulnerable populations and promote fundamental human rights. This was stated by Ambassador Takeuchi Kazuyuki during the contract signing ceremony.

"We are pleased to collaborate with the Public Association 'Social Partnership', thereby supporting vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, people with disabilities, single-parent families, large families, and victims of domestic violence. Beneficiaries will gain access to essential services, including water, sanitation, and hot meals, in a safe and comfortable environment. We hope this project will significantly benefit the residents of Leova by providing them with opportunities for a better future. Leova serves as an excellent example of collaboration with local authorities, and we are delighted that more people will be able to take advantage of the services offered at this center," said the Japanese diplomat.

With Japanese support, the Social Center in Leova will be able to expand the services it offers to vulnerable populations.

"I am deeply grateful and would like to thank you for this opportunity to receive this valuable grant for our community. The Social Center in Leova provides several social services to vulnerable individuals, families in difficulty, and people with disabilities, including a social canteen and a social laundry. We wish to broaden our social services. Through this project to improve the energy efficiency of the building's facade, we are placing greater emphasis on the welfare of those in need and on the overall well-being of our community," said Svetlana Petică, the administrator of the Public Association "Parteneriat Social."

The Mayor of Leova, Alexandru Bujorean, also noted the importance of this support for developing social services in the city.

"We, as the local administration, are committed to the continuity of this project, which includes funding for the staff who will work at this center. Together, we celebrate the beneficiaries who will gain direct access to these essential social services," said mayor Bujorean.

This agreement marks the fourth project approved under Japan's fiscal year 2025 Kusanone Human Security Grant Program.

The Kusanone Human Security Grant Program was launched in the Republic of Moldova in 2008. Through this initiative, the Government of Japan has financed 96 development projects in hospitals, municipal buildings, and educational institutions across the country, amounting to over $7.9 million.
