Igor Grosu on Russian Ambassador Ozerov: He displays arrogant and disrespectful conduct toward Moldova

The accreditation of the designated Russian ambassador to Chișinău, Oleg Ozerov, remains uncertain, and his conduct does not help advance the process, states Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu. He says the Russian diplomat shows an arrogant and disrespectful attitude toward the Republic of Moldova.

Igor Grosu said that the authorities in Chișinău see no reason at this time to change their position on accrediting the Russian diplomat, as he continues to show conduct they consider inappropriate toward the Moldovan state.

“If he continues his current conduct in relations with the Republic of Moldova, I clearly see no change regarding this person.” He displays a very arrogant and very disrespectful attitude toward the Republic of Moldova,” the Parliament Speaker said during a program on Realitatea.

The Parliament Speaker also said that Ozerov appears to try to organize various meetings with citizens of the Republic of Moldova who remain highly obedient to the Kremlin.

Oleg Ozerov was appointed ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova by a decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 10, 2024, and arrived in Chișinău in October of the same year. The Russian Federation has repeatedly accused the Republic of Moldova of violating the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, including during official briefings by the Russian Foreign Ministry and in statements distributed by Moscow news agencies.

President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu explained that the delay in accreditation is due to Russia’s disrespectful attitude toward Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi also stated that Oleg Ozerov holds the status of an agreed ambassador but lacks accreditation and that the delay reflects uncertainty and tension in relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation.

Although he has not received official accreditation, Oleg Ozerov has been summoned several times to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chișinău to receive protest notes concerning Russian drones that violated the airspace of the Republic of Moldova.
